TWO STEP FITNESS

The first step to get fit is learning how to do it. Finding and obtaining the insight and the tools and the techniques you need. Understanding how it works.
But step two is easily overlooked. Step two is turning fitness into a habit. Committing to the behaviors of being fit. Showing up and doing it again and again until you're good at it, and until it's part of who you are and what you do.
Most people who are not fit do not lack the knowledge of how to be fit. They just have not yet made the behaviors a habit. What a shame that we don't invest just a little more to turn the knowledge into a habit.
THE CANDY DIET!

Sorry. It does not exist. As much as we would like to think we can eat candy and lose weight it is just not going to happen. Same for the cookie diet. It is time we step up and do the work required to reach our weight loss goals. Eat real food in its natural state. Foods that come from plants and trees. Candy, does not grow on trees. You are not an 8-year-old anymore.
THE BEST TIME TO START

It’s this time of year that we remember 2006, when Dr. Trent Baker was completing his postdoctoral residency with our company. While discussing the options for his research project he asked, “when is the best time of year to start a fitness program?” With that question the project was born and we set out to find an answer.
Dr. Emery had developed the Physique Tracker body composition software in 2000 and has been using it with Emery Fit clients ever since. By 2006 we had six years’ worth of Physique Tracker data which Dr. Baker utilized to answer his question. He collected the starting months of every client that had been in the facility over those six years and compared it with their fat loss and muscle gain results. The conclusions were quite surprising!
Clients who started or restarted their fitness programs in the month of November had better results than those who started in any other month! Equally surprising to us was that second-best results occurred with those who started in December! The month most people start a new program, January, was the third best month for results.

Re-energize your healthy lifestyle with exercise! The hardest part is starting- use one or several of the following strategies to increase your motivation and fire up your exercise program now!
1-Exercise gives you the opportunity to get time for yourself. Exercise is freeing and builds independence; it can also be an escape from the day to day chaos you experience in your life. If you crave “me time” working out is one way to get it!
2-Exercise can be an opportunity to socialize! Use exercise as your time to get together with friends! Instead of meeting at the restaurant, meet at the local greenway or park to walk or jog. This will also lower your stress level and give you the opportunity to enjoy being outside.
3-Setting short term goals for yourself is exciting. N0 need to overwhelm yourself with long term goals- plan one day or one week at a time! Create a challenge for yourself- and plan your week with this challenge in mind! Do you have 30 minutes to walk right now? How about stopping at the gym on your way home from work? All you need is one change in the right direction to contribute to your health!
4-Make a deal with yourself that gives you incentive for exercising. If I exercise 5 times this week I will give myself a healthy gift- perhaps a massage or facial, maybe a morning to sleep in! Whatever it is, you know it is well deserved for the hard work you’ve accomplished.
5-Be accountable! Find a friend or trainer to be accountable to. The more support you have in your health goals the easier it will be to stay on goal and make it your lifestyle!
THE SURE THING

Are you are looking for the sure thing in Fitness or nutrition? Every weight loss infomercial has that sure thing. They have the testimonials and the "scientific" research to back it up. Whether it is a weight loss pill or the latest exercise gadget, they will tell you it is a sure thing. However, there is no sure thing in weight loss. So stop looking for it and begin looking into yourself for the audacity to make the changes that will transform your weight. That is a sure thing and will work each and every time.
THE FOUR RULES

1) Start now. Don't procrastinate. Don’t think about the past or wait for the future. Everything happens in the present moment.
2) Don't give up. No matter what, giving up is not an option so stop thinking about it.
3) Do your best every time. Each meal or workout is an opportunity. Seize those opportunities as if they were your last.
4) Believe in yourself. I believe in you and know what you are capable of. It is time to start believing in you.
ON DOING YOUR BEST

If you were to ask yourself if you are doing your best at being fit the answer would always be "no". This is because you could always improve. A better question is "what resources would enable you to do better?" When the cost of the resource (personal trainer, dietician, gym membership, food scale, water bottle) is worth the benefit then the answer is easy. Knowing what resources are most beneficial for bringing out your best right now is the key.
NOT STARTING IS THE BEST WAY TO AVOID FAILING

Nobody wants to fail. We seem to fear failure as much as we want to succeed. I know it sounds silly, but the best way to avoid the pain of failure is to not try in the first place. However, not starting and failing lead to the same outcome. If you don't start you will fail! So start today and face the fear of failure. You can do this. Proper nutrition combined with the right exercise program will create success. Are you ready to succeed?
WHAT IF WEIGHT LOSS WAS YOUR JOB?

If your job was to lose weight, would you do it? Of course! You do your current job every day. The excuses would be gone. Those excuses would quickly become the obstacles to overcome, and you would do it. After all, it is your job, it is what you do. Treat losing weight like it is your "other" job. Give it priority in your life and you will be paid handsomely in weight loss results!

Celebrate each meal that was within range, the finishing of a workout that you almost did not start, and the water intake that was better than yesterday. These are the building blocks of success. Celebrate each one and use it to fuel future victories.

FEAR OF HUNGER AND FATIGUE

Hunger is a sign that you are eating less than your body is burning. Hunger is fat burning in your body. Don't fear the hunger, for it is your body thanking you for taking off that fat. Fatigue is the result of expended effort. The sign that the workout you completed was purposeful. Don’t fear the fatigue, appreciate what you accomplished.
Both hunger and fatigue are to be used in moderation. Too much of anything can be harmful.
EVERY DAY IS AN INVESTMENT

Each and every day you make an investment of energy, focus and effort directed toward your fitness goal. You eat foods, perform exercise, drink water, and maybe even take supplements. You make these investments for the return that they will yield. What if you are not investing correctly? The resulting return will not yield what you had hoped for. Before you spend any more time investing, take a moment to examine if you are making the right investment choices. Are you unsure as to the best investments for your goals? Seek qualified advice.
Investing incorrectly for a week or a month won't kill you. But spending three months contributing inappropriately... you can do better.
